Now that I’m officially in my third trimester (check out my second trimester recap here), I am in full baby prep mode so that means I am packing my hospital bag just in case baby boy decides to come early. I have done so much research on what to bring (and what not to bring!) so hopefully I will be prepared. I also have the opportunity to speak with some of the nurses at work and see what they recommend working on the Labor and Delivery unit to pack for the hospital. Less is more is the message I keep getting so we’ll see how I do since I am a notorious over packer.
I am trying to pack light since, hopefully, we will only be there less than a few days so I am only bringing this navy duffel bag from Amazon. I love how spacious it is and can hold all my items. I found these matching packing cubes to help keep my items and baby’s items separate so they don’t get mixed together.
My Hospital Bag
For Me
I found this amazing labor gown and robe set from Baby Be Mine that is perfectly designed for laboring in a hospital. It has snaps that allow for easy skin to skin, opens in the front to accommodate fetal monitors, and opens in the back in case I have an epidural. I purchased the matching robe so in case I need to go walking in the hallways, I am a bit more covered. They have so many cute designs and options to choose from so if you are looking for something other than a traditional hospital gown, this is a great option.
Other than my labor gown, I am packing several nursing friendly nightgowns and robes since that is what I plan to live in post partum. I found this gorgeous green nursing nightgown from LAKE pajamas and got the matching robe since I can’t resist a good nightgown/robe set.
I also found this pink set from A Pea in the Pod that is so feminine and beautiful. It will be perfect to help me feel presentable again after the long hours of labor and little sleep. For a more budget option, I found this blue and white stripe nightgown from Amazon that comes in several colors and is perfect for nursing with front snaps.
I found the perfect nursing bras from Target and they are only $17 so I purchased a BUNCH of them and have been wearing them even now. They are wire free, super supportive, and come in several different styles.
Nursing Friendly Gowns and Robes
For Baby
For bubby boy, I am only packing 2-3 outfits since we don’t plan to be in the hospital for long. I found a cute name announcement/birth measurement sign on Etsy that I am going to pair with this stripe swaddle set for a birth announcement photo. There are some really cute newborn sets at Target right now so I grabbed a few to bring with us to the hospital and for once we get home. I am leaning towards the more neutral colors for his clothing with lots of navy, deep greens, and grays as the palate for him.
Baby Boy Items
Miscellaneous
I reached out to a few friends and looked at some new mom videos to find out what they found most helpful to pack for the hospital and it seems like there isn’t too much you need to bring since the hospital should supply you with a lot of what you might require in terms of diapers and wipes. I am packing some non-slip slippers/socks to walk around in during/after labor and a toiletry bag full of items to pamper myself with just a bit for that first shower post-delivery.
We are bringing a Bluetooth speaker to listen to podcasts and play music since that is such a part of our lives now. Music is a great motivator for me so send me any song recommendations for labor! I am on the fence about bringing a diffuser since I’m not a big essential oil fan and am fairly picky when it comes to scents so we’ll see if that is something I want to try.
In all, I am trying not to bring too much with us since it seems like a lot of what you might bring for something like a vacation just isn’t necessary and you usually aren’t there for too long. I just want a couple outfits I will be comfortable in and a few little comforts of home. Let me know if you have any items you’d recommend we pack or anything that made your hospital experience easier!
