Its wildflower season here in Texas which means spring is in full swing! As temperatures rise and the days grow longer, I like to move my skincare away from the heavy creams and oils of winter to lighter, more airy products that keep my skin glowing, not glistening from the heat.
I’ve hopped on the “double cleansing” bandwagon and it has made a huge difference in my complexion, especially in how easy it is to take my makeup off at the end of the day. If you don’t’ know what double cleansing is, it using two cleansers to wash your face, The first one being oil based, like a balm cleanser, and the second one being water based, like a more traditional facial wash. The idea is that the oil based cleanser will help break down the makeup more effectively so that the second wash will actually clean the skin, not just take your makeup off.
I feel like my skin is cleaner after using this method, especially when I use a makeup melting balm like the Neutrogena one below. If you haven’t tried double cleansing, I’d recommend getting a few trial sizes and trying it for a few days to see if it is for you.
Below are some of the skincare products I’ve been using and loving lately. Let me know what some of your favorites are right now!
Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm
This is a cult favorite for a reason! This thick, magical balm melts makeup and oil off your face with the smallest amount of product needed. I use this as my first step in the double cleansing routine to help break down all the makeup and oil on my face. I’ve seen a lot of people say they like the scent of the balm, but for me personally, I don’t really care for it. However, the rose and water mint varieties smell fantastic!
Estee Lauder Perfectly Clean Face Wash
This is the second step in my double cleansing routine. This fantastic cleanser really gets your face feeling CLEAN! The thick, rich cream helps wash off any remaining dirt and oil from your face to help prep your skin for any products you put on afterwards. I’ve used this cleanser for years and keep repurchasing for a reason.
Tula So Polished Exfoliating Sugar Scrub
I use a facial scrub 2-3 times a week to exfoliate my skin in-between washes. I don’t go for some of the harsher, more granular scrubs since my skin can bit a bit sensitive. This Tula sugar scrub is the perfect compromise for those who want a good scrub but also don’t want something that feels like sandpaper.
Neutrogena Makeup Melting Balm
This product saved my eyelashes! I used to scrub and rub my poor eyes with micellar water and makeup removers trying to get my mascara off but nothing ever seem to work well and I ended up losing so many eyelashes in the process. This magical balm takes off even waterproof mascara and eyeliner with ease and will save you many tearful nights. I use a small amount on each eye and really rub it in then wash off with hot water. It doesn’t completely take off all mascara so I follow up by using a micellar water to take the rest off, but it is a breeze. No scrubbing needed!
Elemis Apricot Toner Spray
I use a toner after I wash my face to make sure I have every last bit of makeup off and to clean off any oil left on my skin. This toner has just a enough astringent in it to keep my oil prone skin in check but isn’t too harsh to cause it to break out.
La Roche Posay Toner
I’ll be honest, I bought this mostly because I love apricot, but after using it for several weeks now, I love it because of how it refreshes my skin (and it smells great!). I spritz this on before my serum to add some hydration back into my skin after the toner has wiped away all the oil.
Naturium Serums
Day: Vitamin C serum-I use this in the mornings to add some brightness to my skin before makeup goes on. I found this brand at Target and love all their products now (check out their body wash!). It is lightweight and helps to give my face a little extra flow first thing in the morning.
Night: Hyaluronic Acid serum-I use this serum to deeply moisturize my skin before bed so I can wake up with a fresh looking face. This formula isn’t too harsh and soaks in quickly so you can layer on any night cream you need afterwards.
