My hair needs a lot of help. From coloring it every month to heat styling it several times a week, it can get dry FAST. That’s why I’ve incorporated a weekly hair mask into my routine, usually on the weekend when I can take the time to leave it in for a long time and really soak in. Check out one of my favorite shampoo/conditioner combos here for what I use in between weekend masks!
I like my hair masks to be thick and tremendously hydrating since that is what my hair needs most. I’ve tried everything from high end products to nearly everything at the drug store, and I’ve come up with a list of my top 5 products from across multiple brands. They range in price from a bit more expensive to only $1.99 so there is something for everyone.
Each of these is great for hydrating dry hair and helping bring softness back to your locks. I would recommend using a hair mask at least every other week at a minimum just to keep things from getting too crispy. The longer you can leave it in, the better. There are even some great overnight hair masks you can try, but I don’t have any listed. Below (in no particular order) are my top 5 hair masks for helping rehydrate your hair.
Hask Argan Oil Repairing Deep Conditioner
This packet of magic is one of the thickest hair masks you will ever use, but it does an amazing job of making my hair feel so moisturized and light. I like to pack these when we travel since they come in a TSA approved size, and I use them to help my hair out after long travel days. For only $1.99 each, you can keep a few laying around to use when you need a refresh on the go.
It’s a 10 Miracle Hair Mask
Miracle is no joke! This transformative mask has done more for my hair than just about any other product. I use this alongside the It’s a 10 leave in conditioner spray (I’ve used this for YEARS!) for the softest hair I’ve ever had. It smells divine and thoroughly hydrates your hair in just 10 minutes. If you are looking for a deeper, more intense treatment to help really damaged hair, this is the one I’d recommend.
Olaplex No 3
This is one of my newest discoveries in terms of hair masks, and it is a little different than the rest. It is much thinner than the others and is meant to be used BEFORE you shampoo, not after. I like this one because it helps with the frizz in my hair, which is especially important in the summer months when humidity is high. Leave this mask in for 10-15 minutes while you get ready to rinse off then shampoo/conditioner normally. It will give you sleeker, easier to manage hair after a few uses.
Herbal Essence Repairing Hair Mask
This is one of the first hair masks I ever fell in love with. I’ve been using it for over a decade and it never ceases to impress me. This coconut scented mask is perfect for weekly use since it doesn’t weigh your hair down too much but adds plenty of moisture back into dry strands. This $5.99 mask is as good as ones triple the price so definitely give it a try if you are new to the hair mask world.
Kerastase Chroma Absolu Strengthening Mask
This mask is specifically for color treated hair and helps maintain color vibrancy and shine even with frequent coloring. It is on the pricier side of the masks I featured, but it is worth it to protect your hair, especially if you color it a lot like I do. I use this maybe once a month on the first wash after I’ve colored my hair to help lock in the color and prevent excess drying. If you color your hair at all, I’d highly recommend this mask to help maintain it.
