28 weeks have come and gone with my little one! He has changed so much in such a short time. To think we started the second trimester with finding out we were having a boy, to now, finishing the nursery and making sure our hospital bags are packed (just in case!). Baby boy has grown from the size of a kiwi to the size of a cauliflower all in three short months. Looking back on the photos we have of him from 12 weeks ago, it is hard to believe how quickly it has all gone by.
This trimester I have really enjoyed being pregnant. The fatigue and very mild nausea I had early on went away and I started to feel back to normal. I felt the baby kick for the first time around 19 weeks and he hasn’t stopped since then. That was one of the ways I knew for certain he was a boy: from the first ultrasound, he was bouncing and moving CONSTANTLY. It is fun to feel him kick and move around, especially now that other people can feel him move too. My belly is starting to wiggle and move as he grows and stretches out. I wonder what his world is like, all dark and warm, and what he can perceive about the world outside. He seems to like when lots of people are talking or when we are in a group so I wonder if he’ll be extroverted.
I’ve been trying to eat lots of different tastes and textures of food since I’ve heard that can help prevent a picky eater and help the baby enjoy a broader variety of flavors when they are older. Thankfully all the food aversions of the first trimester are gone and pretty much anything sounds appetizing right now.
My cravings have been fairly consistent with the first trimester. Lemonade has been my one main craving throughout the whole 28 weeks. Raspberry lemonade, strawberry lemonade, blueberry lemonade, limeade, you name it, I love it. I guess it is fitting as we go into the hottest summer months that a cold, refreshing drink would be what I crave. I’ve also wanted lots of pimento cheese and chocolate malts. I’ve always loved pimento cheese, I just want it around a lot more than usual. I know this boy will take after his dad and be an ice cream fanatic since I’ve been craving chocolate malts too. Maybe having a child of my own is making me reminisce about my own childhood and getting chocolate malts with my family during the summer and that is causing the craving. Whatever it is, its been a good excuse for some weekend Culver’s runs.
I had the first of my baby showers with my dearest friends at the end of June, and it was a beautiful celebration with those I hold dearest. I can’t wait for this baby boy to be surrounded by all the aunties that love him to pieces. He is going to be so blessed to have such a wonderful group of people around him to support and encourage him.
We found out at one of our last ultrasounds that he is already in the 90th percentile for both height and weight, and in the 85th percentile for head circumference. I knew he was going to be a big baby, but now I am convinced he is going to be well into the 8 pound range if not 9 pounds. Say a prayer for me now!
We have the nursery 90% finished and are just waiting on a few pieces to finish out the décor. Check out some of the progress here! What a joy it has been to design a space that is so special to us. Sometimes I just go sit in there and look at the crib and imagine what it will be like to see my son in there in just a few short months.
Looking forward, I am in the home stretch, entering my third trimester just as summer is in full swing here in Texas with record breaking heat (it was 110 degrees yesterday). We did not time things out very well! My plan to survive the heat is to stay indoors as much as possible, use my new kiddie pool on the really hot days, and take everything one day at a time. I am grateful to not have to be outside very much so hopefully I can survive until the end of September in relative comfort.
We are in the process of packing our hospital bags just in case baby boy decides he wants to come early. I am making preparations at work for my maternity leave and trying to relax and enjoy these last few months of peace and quiet. I am so ready to meet this little one though! I pray these last three months go smoothly without any complications or concerns and that we can hold our little one soon. We love you bubby!
