July 29th, 2021 we officially became homeowners and what a year it has been! So much has happened and changed (all for the good) in just 365 days. From a baby on the way (due late September!) to finding our place in our new neighborhood, it has been the best year of our life.
If you would have told me a year ago that I would still be just as in love with our home as the day we bought it, I’d think you were crazy, but it is true. Every time we get home from a trip or a long day out, I will literally say “I love our house!” to my husband because there really is no other feeling than being a homeowner.
It was a long road to get the house finished and close on time, and I don’t envy myself a year ago: stressing over the delays and having to reschedule all the furniture delivery multiple times, but it was all worth it.
In the last year, we really have transformed this from just a house to a home. The first month we were in the house was a flurry of unpacking, decorating, and filling the house with everything a home needs. Neither Chris nor I are very good at the in-between stages so there were many long days of unpacking and organizing that first month as we got everything settled.
Some of the highlights from this year include hosting our first holiday season in the house: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years as well as Mother’s Day and many other family gatherings. We’ve had countless dinner parties with friends and enjoyed how well the space is designed for entertaining.
We somehow kept our yard alive through a Texas summer and winter freeze! I am discovering my passion for landscaping slowly and hope to add more plants and outdoor designs in the coming months.
Getting the nursery set up has been such a joy (see a preview here!). How fun it will be to see our little one have such a beautiful space to be in.
I can’t wait for what the next year has in store for us. This house really is our dream home and we love it so much. I can’t wait to bring our son home to it so he can enjoy growing up here. It will be so fascinating to see the house through his eyes and where his favorite spots to play are.
Cheers to the first year of a grand adventure!
