There are not many ladies left in the 21st century.
With the media full of stories about Cardi B’s latest twerking episode or Kim Kardashian’s rear end, it’s no wonder that it’s difficult to find examples of leading women acting like ladies. It is even more challenging to find examples of women who embody the qualities of a lady both at home and in the workplace.
In the modern era women are fed so many contradictory and confusing ideas about what it means to be a woman. Newsstand magazines showcase images of Photoshopped, impossibly perfect women and products that are supposed to make us more attractive, successful, and desirable. On the very next page, we are told to accept ourselves for who we are and love our imperfections.
I am here to tell you that being a lady in today’s culture isn’t impossible. It is in fact entirely attainable and is something that all women, young and old, can work towards.
There are so many examples of well-behaved women that are adored for their lady-like qualities and emulated by women of all generations. Kate Middleton, Princess Diana, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelley, Jackie O, and Jenifer Garner are just a few of the women who have lived lovely lives and have made their mark on history through their class and poise rather than wild antics.
Being a lady can be confusing though. What is it that defines a lady? Is it her style? Her beauty? Her well-decorated home? Her ability to throw gorgeous dinner parties? No. Being a lady means being kind, graceful, and lovely to all and in all situations. That is the key to being a modern lady. In a world full of mini-skirts at the office, cat fights at the bar, and back stabbing to get ahead, a woman who speaks kind words, encourages others, and dresses in way that is not distracting is such an attractive alternative.
What does it mean to be lovely? It means having a beauty that appeals to the heart and mind, as well as to the eye. Being lovely doesn’t only refer to looks or how one dresses, though those are important aspects. To be lovely means you exemplify the qualities of a lady on the inside and the outside. This may seem like a difficult challenge, but it is one worth undertaking, because the modern world so desperately needs more women to be ladies.
I hope that this space will fill some of the void on the Internet for advice on how to lead a graceful life and how to live in a way that gets you noticed for all the right reasons. I want it to be a space for women to share ideas about how they make their lives more beautiful and support one another. My goal is to help show women of all ages the benefits of being a lady and the value of leading a lovely life. So regardless of whether you are starting from a uniform of sweatpants or already would consider yourself a lovely lady, I hope this blog has something that can benefit everyone.
Thank you for all your support!
