I recently came to the realization that I need a desk to work at. Sitting on the couch, slumped over the laptop while I work or write was just not working for me. I wanted a space to set my coffee while I work, journal, or write my daily to-do lists. Since we don’t have a proper home office (my husband uses one of the bedrooms as his office but there is no room in there for me), I started to get creative. There is a little nook in our bedroom in front of a window that looks out on our back porch. By sliding the dressers down just a few inches, there was enough room to fit a small writing desk and bench.
I knew it couldn’t be a large setup and needed to be flush with the dressers, so I made my measurements and found this beautiful desk on Amazon. It fits PERFECTLY in the space! By using a bench seat rather than an office chair, I can tuck it under the desk to keep the space clear. It also forces me to have good posture while I’m sitting (no slumping allowed!) so that is a perk.
I am IN LOVE with this little space. I’m actually sitting at the desk as I write! I added a beautiful photo from my first mother’s day (more about there here!), and added a glass tray for flowers and this stunning candle from Target. I have a few notepads from Rifle Paper Co for jotting down all my ideas and lits. I swapped the drawer knobs from the gold that came with the desk to these silver ones from Anthropologie to keep with the silver theme we have in our bedroom. I hung some beautiful framed prints from Etsy to fill out the space.
In all, I could not be happier with this space. It is perfectly functional and stylish. I love setting up for the day, getting my work done, and looking out the window enjoying the sunshine. I’m looking forward to many years of loving this space.
