Something you may not know about me is I am OBSESSED with podcasts. I almost always have one on while I am working, doing chores around the house, or cooking meals. It is such a fun way to learn about something you may not know about and listen to a fascinating story. Podcasts today are truly amazing. The production value is outstanding and there are so many unique stories out there to learn about. Below are some of my favorites right now. Give them a listen and let me know what you think!
American Hostage
A story I had never heard of that I was fascinated by! A Midwest radio announcer is pulled into a terrifying situation when a college is held at gunpoint and he is forced to become the mediator, capturing national attention in the process. This is a scripted show based on a true story staring John Hamm. It truly captures the madness of the antagonist and stressed me out quite a bit listening to it. All episodes are out now so binge it now!
American Hostage
Looking at the donor conception business, this podcast takes a deep dive into the world of fertility and all the issues that come along with. It highlights stories of individuals who find out they were donor conceived much later in life and the legal issues that present themselves with this situation. It is a topic I knew very little about until this podcast so it has been enlightening to learn about all the complexities of such a unique subject.
Vanity Fair: Dynasty
As a royal lover, I couldn’t not listen to his podcast! It takes a historical look at the Windsor family (Queen Elizabeth’s family) throughout history and up to the modern day. Focusing on the lineage of the current royal family, it looks at the tremendous change this family has overseen in the last 150 years and what the future of the monarchy looks like. If you loved The Crown, you’ll love this podcast.
Wild Boys
What would you do if two young boys showed up in your rural town and said they were raised in the bush with no adult supervision? This podcast examines the true story of a small Canadian town that was pulled into the national spotlight when two unidentified boys showed up in their town claiming to have been abandoned in the woods years ago with a wild story of their survival. Are they telling the truth? Does the town every find out who they really are? This fascinating story is well worth a binge listen.
Standoff
Even though I live in Texas, I don’t know much about Texas history so this podcast about the 1974 Huntsville Prison Riot is a great primer on modern Texas events. It tells the story of the eleven day standoff between prisoners and law enforcement at the Huntsville Prison and those caught in the crossfire as hostages. It is a terrifying piece of Texas history that I have enjoyed learning more about.
