You all know I LOVE podcasts. There’s something for literally everyone, from true crime, to cooking shows, to history and edutainment (education+entertainment). I’ve done a few roundups of some of my favorite podcasts, but there’s always new shows coming out that I get hooked on so I wanted to share what I’m currently listing to.
Hunted
If you love the twists and turns of Law & Order, you’ll love this show from its creator, Dick Wolf. This fictional crime drama follows Deputy Marshall Barnes and she hunts down 4 escaped prison convicts in a dangerous manhunt. The production value in this show is incredible and its like you are watching TV, just without the picture. I love this show because it is so immersive and has a great plot. If you are a fan of true crime, you’ll enjoy this one.
American Elections: Wicked Game
If you thought US elections back in the 1800’s were so much more civilized and less contentious than our elections today, think again! This podcast from Wondry details every election in US history in order each week, starting with George Washington, and will finish with the current election in November. Not only is this a great history podcast, it really goes to show how crazy the political process has been all throughout US history! It’s a great way to get and educational dose of politics without any agenda.
The Dream
I seriously wish I could make everyone listen to this podcast. The first season of The Dream tackles one of the most challenging and delicate subjects of the day: MLM’s (Multi-Level Marketing). From Amway, to Herbalife, to everyone’s favorite essential oil companies, this podcast takes a hard look at the numbers behind MLM’s and how the affect those involved. It’s a harsh but valid critique of a huge part of our culture and is fascinating to listen through.
Monster: DC Sniper
From the Monster series, which has covered the Atlanta Child Murderer to the infamous Zodiac Killer, comes the latest installment about the DC Sniper case. It’s strange because I was alive while all this was going on, but I have no memory of it…From chilling discussions with those in law enforcement, to immaculately edited interviews with firsthand witnesses, this show is one of the best new podcasts in a long time. If you are curious about how the DC Sniper(s) were finally brought to justice, check out this incredible show.
9 Days in July
As a child of a child of the space era, I have a fascination with the space race and have always loved reading and learning about this incredible period of history. 9 Days in July focuses on the nine day journey of Apollo 11 and includes a tremendous amount of first hand recordings and news clips that have not been made public previously. It does a wonderful job of telling the story of one of man’s greatest achievements.
